Making Sense of Cities
Making Sense of Cities
By Blair Badcock
A point has been reached globally where the numbers of people living in cities will soon exceed those in the countryside. The new millennium will be the 'urban millennium' as never before with the growth of mega-cities found now in all continents and the globe's interlocking commodity and international finance networks. Making Sense of Cities provides an up-to-date, vibrant and accessible introduction to urban geography. It gives students a sense of the patterns and processes of urbanization and cities, recognizing the significance of globalization, economics, politics and culture from a range of perspectives. Above all, it provides a sense of relevance, inviting students to engage with competing theories and to ask themselves whether what is being proposed is consistent with their personal experience.
